Advantages of Dental Implants
Our dental implants have several advantages over other restorative methods. The biggest advantage is the convenience of dental implants. Once the implants are inserted into the jaw, they will fuse to your jawbone due to their natural biocompatibility. This means that they are a permanent, secure, one-time investment that will act just like a natural tooth. Many patients praise dental implants as an easy way to restore your smile. This advanced procedure requires almost no maintenance and will never need to be removed, such as other methods like dentures. The biggest advantages of dental implants include:
- Natural-looking
- Last a lifetime
- Stable and durable
- Convenience
Types of Implants
Hawaii Cosmetic Dental currently offers three types of dental implants in Honolulu:
- Root Form Implant: This type of implant is most common and consists of a custom-created false tooth and a titanium tooth root that fuses to your jaw over time.
- Plate Form Implant: A plate form implant is best suited for a patient with a narrow jawbone because it has a flat and long shape.
- Subperiosteal Implants: In some cases where there is not enough bone width or height for the root form or plate form implant, a subperiosteal implant may be prescribed. This type of implant is designed to sit on top of the bone but under the gums.
After the implant surgery, the implant posts need to heal for approximately three to six months. During this healing period (called osseointegration) the titanium post fuses with your jawbone to provide a solid foundation on which to place the artificial tooth restoration. Once the implant post has successfully integrated into the jawbone, and the area is healed, Dr. Rosala will begin work on the restoration. He may suggest placing a crown, or perhaps a bridge, depending on your needs. Dental implants can even anchor a full or partial set of dentures.
After your initial implant surgery, the “root” will need to heal for approximately three to six months to allow the area to heal. After this period of time is over, you will be able to have your custom tooth permanently attached. Dr. Rosala will make a small incision in the area and simply attach the false tooth. You may be provided with different levels of sedation depending on your needs and the needs of the individual procedure.
Depending on the needs of your smile, Dr. Rosala may recommend either a custom crown or a bridge. Our dental implants can also be used to anchor a full or partial set of dentures. Consult with Dr. Rosala to determine what the best options would be for your smile.
